Success Metrics
There are two formatting options available. The traditional desired outcome statement is a structure used in the Outcome-Driven Innovation methodology. Since many stakeholders - especially when involved with marketing or UX teams - push back on the awkward nature of desired outcomes statements since people don’t talk like that, the alternative is a natural language structure that gets to the heart of the outcome and tries to avoid tasks and activities where feasible.
This catalog contains 20 potential metrics using each formatting option. You will likely need to reduce this set for a survey. The number of statements that have been generated is arbitrary and can be expanded to accommodate your needs.
Desired Outcome Statements (ODI)
- Minimize the time it takes to identify the appropriate storage location, e.g., cabinets, shelves, etc.
- Minimize the time it takes to ensure the storage area is clean, e.g., wiping down surfaces, removing dust, etc.
- Minimize the time it takes to organize the cleaning supplies, e.g., grouping similar items, arranging by frequency of use, etc.
- Minimize the time it takes to label the storage containers, e.g., using tags, writing descriptions, etc.
- Minimize the time it takes to ensure the cleaning supplies are easily accessible, e.g., placing frequently used items at the front, using clear containers, etc.
- Minimize the time it takes to verify the cleaning supplies are properly sealed, e.g., checking lids, ensuring airtight containers, etc.
- Minimize the time it takes to ensure the cleaning supplies are stored safely, e.g., keeping chemicals away from children, avoiding flammable materials, etc.
- Minimize the time it takes to check the expiration dates of cleaning supplies, e.g., reading labels, rotating stock, etc.
- Minimize the time it takes to ensure the storage area is well-ventilated, e.g., opening windows, using fans, etc.
- Minimize the time it takes to ensure the storage area is free of pests, e.g., using traps, sealing cracks, etc.
- Minimize the time it takes to ensure the cleaning supplies are stored at the correct temperature, e.g., avoiding extreme heat, keeping in a cool place, etc.
- Minimize the time it takes to ensure the cleaning supplies are stored in a dry area, e.g., avoiding dampness, using dehumidifiers, etc.
- Minimize the time it takes to ensure the storage area is secure, e.g., locking cabinets, using childproof locks, etc.
- Minimize the time it takes to ensure the cleaning supplies are stored in an organized manner, e.g., using bins, stacking neatly, etc.
- Minimize the time it takes to ensure the cleaning supplies are stored in a way that prevents spills, e.g., using spill-proof containers, placing on stable surfaces, etc.
- Minimize the time it takes to ensure the cleaning supplies are stored in a way that prevents contamination, e.g., separating chemicals, using clean containers, etc.
- Minimize the time it takes to ensure the cleaning supplies are stored in a way that prevents damage, e.g., avoiding heavy items on top, using protective covers, etc.
- Minimize the time it takes to ensure the cleaning supplies are stored in a way that prevents odors, e.g., using odor absorbers, keeping lids tightly closed, etc.
- Minimize the time it takes to ensure the cleaning supplies are stored in a way that prevents leaks, e.g., using leak-proof containers, checking for cracks, etc.
- Minimize the likelihood of misplacing cleaning supplies, e.g., using labeled bins, maintaining an inventory list, etc.

Test Fit Structure
Apply this to Customer Success Statements only. Everything should fit together nicely. Here’s an article where I introduced the concept. Feel free to devise your own version for Desired Outcome Statements as this does not apply to their format directly.
